A delegation of Fatah Central Committee members briefed the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Fahmy, on Wednesday regarding the latest political and national developments, as well as efforts being made at various levels to end the suffering of the Palestinian people. The delegation included Jibril Rajoub, Secretary of the Fatah Central Committee; Mohammad Shtayyeh, Central Committee member and former Prime Minister; Muhannad Al-Aklouk, Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the Arab League; and Tamer Al-Tayeb, First Counselor at the Palestinian Mission to the Arab League. Representing the Arab League was Ambassador Fayed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories. The meeting, held at the Arab League General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo, addressed the latest political and field developments and efforts to end the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. Discussions focused on enhancing the humanitarian response and empowering the State of Palestine and its national institutions to fulfill their responsibilities, thereby preserving the unity of the land, the people, and the Palestinian political system. The meeting also examined efforts to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid, advance reconstruction, and support a political process based on international legitimacy resolutions—ultimately aiming to end the occupation and realize an independent Palestinian state. Furthermore, the meeting addressed the obstacles and impediments placed by the occupation in the path of holding Palestinian elections, emphasizing the importance of supporting the democratic process to strengthen the unity of the Palestinian political system. Discussions also covered the dangerous situation in the West Bank—including occupied Jerusalem—the ongoing attacks and terrorism by settlers, the withholding of Palestinian funds, and ways to safeguard the Palestinian national project. The delegation also conveyed the greetings of President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian leadership to the Secretary-General, in appreciation of his efforts and support for the Palestinian people in securing their legitimate rights. For his part, the Secretary-General emphasized the importance of Palestinian internal unity and cohesion, the need to uphold the foundations of the Palestinian cause, and the necessity of supporting the two-state solution at this critical juncture in the Palestinian people's struggle. He reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause to the Arab League, as well as the League's support for the Palestinian people's steadfastness and struggle to overcome the current phase and the associated humanitarian, political, and security challenges.
